Hello everyone and I hope the school holidays were enjoyable.
Term dates:
A reminder that this term ends on the 25th of September and that we have a midterm break Tues 25th and Thursday 27th August.
Monday 24th of August will be used for our Monday students to make up for the up-and-coming Labour Day which lands on Monday 26th Oct.
Some tutors might use the Tuesday and/or Thursday to do replacement lessons that were lost during the year, but your tutor will keep you informed.
Term 4 starts Monday 12th October. Please note that the KMC terms coincide with the school terms, and all this information is on our website.
Concert Day is Saturday 21st November. Please read below.
Saturday 21st November
This is our big Concert Day where the students get to perform to whanau and friends. Times to be confirmed but please mark the date on your calendars. It is held at Te Raukura ki Kapiti.
Senior Students Performing
The KMC perform a Combined Concert for our more senior students. They will perform 4-5 songs as part of our End of Year Concert. It is the last performance of the day, and it is a fun and deserving way to end the year with the audience participation.
For those students involved in the combined orchestral songs, there is a rehearsal upstairs in Puoro 2 with the Musical Director Monday 21st September at 7.00pm for set up. It will go on for roughly 1 – 1.5 hours. Your tutor will inform you if you are partaking in this.
Tuesday 27th October is the second rehearsal in term 4 at 7.00pm.
Te Raukura
Thank you everyone for being respectful of our space at Te Raukura ki Kapiti. We are blessed to have use of this magnificent building so thank you for being quiet and mindful. There will be exams and assessments in term 4 but we will be notified.
Classes and practicing
Time is flying and we have 13 lessons remaining for the year. This is a friendly reminder that learning an instrument requires regular practice so when you enrol with the KMC, the tutors expect consistent practicing to take place in the home. Ten minutes a day is better than one long practice a week. This allows muscle memory to develop.
Students who do not practice will hinder the progress of the class and is likely to lose interest so please encourage your maestros to keep up with their practicing.

New Tutor
The KMC is very fortunate to have a new tutor join for 2026. Åsa Pettersson is filling in for the Introduction to Music classes, and we would like to welcome her and her aptitude and gift of music she brings to her students. Welcome Åsa.
